Murlocs Gone Wild

Week two is usually the time where most novelists are over the 'honeymoon' of writing so much so fast. Getting to 10k was cool, but the push from there to 50k loses a lot of people.

For me, I love week two.. I'm usually way behind anyways.

And it's true, I've only got about 3.4k to my name, but that's not for lack of trying. Week one is usually filled with so much STUFF to do. It's tradition that the site breaks. This year there was an amazing round of power outages, and servers straight up barfing all over each other.

Sam and Russ (the few, the the brave, the nw.org tech people) are amazing at pulling the guts out of something and making it work. The the forum mods, the irc staff, the MLs, they're all apart from the paid NW/OLL staff, but we still put in a massive amount of man hours throughout the year. It's incredibly disappointing and discouraging the amount of NOVELER RAGE!! I've seen concerning site performance and that so many would openly challenge what Chris Baty does with all the donations received. A shame, really. /rant

But, yes, week two. The week where it Gets Harder Before It Gets Easier. Many wrimos will fall off the wagon, but I love it. Things will have settled a bit, people start to pipe down and barring an apocalyptic event it gets a lot less stressful. I've been scribbling down notes when I can about where I'd like to take my story, and tomorrow when I crawl out of the Week One Pit Of Despair I'm excited about picking it back up.

To anyone who's feeling a little eh about their novel - don't fall into the trap! You just wrote a huge amount of works in seven days, so you've already proven you can do this. You just need a little longer to make it a habit. Week two might suck for you, but just keep writing. Even if you don't stay completely on task, don't give up. Remember that there's always Week 3 around the corner, waiting to welcome you back!

This is especially important for us, I think, considering Wrath. Stray strong! How do you plan on doing it? How has it been so far, especially for the first timers? I love hearing other people's experiences with NaNoWriMo. :)
